Build Basics
Start by deciding what size and scale banjo you want to design, you can choose to go with our “Standard,” “Traveler” or your own custom size within the limitations of our current lumber inventory. Our Standard is a 25” scale with a 12” diameter pot. Our Travelers, tend to range from 22-24 1/2” scale with 9” diameter pots.
The next step is to choose what lumber or combination of lumber types for the construction of the banjo, head shape, and style of tuners.
Designs and Details
From shape to soundhole, diving into the truly unique side of our commission work you can choose to incorporate custom designs and art into your banjo. From shaping your banjo like a coffin to engraving and carving designs that flow not just from the surface but into the shape and layout of the banjo’s sound hole. You can choose to have a traditional circle or geometric pattern sound hole or something fully unique like the Sabo Kitty IWW banjo or the Starry Plough Connolly memorial seen in the gallery.
